    Privacy Policy

    How NO1 Recovery collects, uses and protects your personal data in line with the GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.

    This Privacy Policy explains what personal data NO1 Recovery (“we”, “us”) collects when you call for roadside assistance or vehicle recovery, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Data Protection Act 2018, and we are accountable to the Data Protection Commission of Ireland.

    1. Data controller

    NO1 RECOVERY (“we”, “us” or “the company”) is the data controller responsible for your personal data. We trade as a roadside assistance and vehicle recovery business operating across Ireland, with our main base at Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

    For any privacy matter you can contact us using the details in section 11 (Contact & your rights). We are not established as a company because we operate as a sole trader and the controller is the business owner.

    2. Personal data we collect

    We only collect personal data that is necessary to provide our roadside assistance, vehicle recovery and towing services. This includes:

    • Identity & contact data: your name, mobile and landline phone number, email address and, when needed, your postal/Eircode address.
    • Location data: the breakdown or recovery location you give us by phone, by text or through the online form on this website (including the “share my location” function on a mobile device).
    • Vehicle data: vehicle make, model, colour and registration number, plus a short description of the breakdown or damage.
    • Service & billing data: details of the call out, distance towed, invoice amount and, where you pay by card, the card details handled by our payment provider (we never store full card numbers).
    • Insurance data: where we settle a recovery directly with your motor insurer, the insurer name, claim reference and any information they ask us to confirm.
    • Communication data: a record of your call, text or email, and any photographs you send us of the vehicle or accident scene.

    We do not knowingly collect special category personal data (such as health information). If you tell us anything about an injury sustained in a collision we will only use it to arrange the right level of help.

    3. How we collect it

    • Directly from you when you call our 24/7 helpline, text or email us, submit the contact form on this website, or speak to our driver at the scene.
    • From your insurer or a third party who books the recovery on your behalf (for example a breakdown service, a family member, or a garage).
    • From your device when you use the “share my location” option — this is handled by your phone’s operating system and is only used for that call out.

    4. Why we use your data (the legal basis)

    We use your personal data for the following purposes, each under the lawful basis shown:

    • To respond to your call for help and carry out the roadside assistance, recovery or towing service you asked for — performance of a contract.
    • To send you an invoice, take payment and keep VAT records — performance of a contract and our legal obligation under Irish tax law (including VAT returns).
    • To liaise with your motor insurer or a third-party breakdown provider to confirm and settle a claim — our legitimate interests and, where relevant, your consent.
    • To answer follow-up questions about your recovery, arrange a garage or onward transport, and keep you informed — our legitimate interests.
    • To improve the website, keep it secure and review call-out response times — our legitimate interests.
    • Where you have asked us to send you marketing (for example seasonal offers for battery or tyre checks) — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

    5. Contact form, booking & CRM

    When you complete the contact form on this website, or call us and we log the job, your details are stored in our customer relationship management (CRM) system so we can dispatch a truck, track the job and keep a record in case of any later query or insurance claim. The CRM provider acts as our processor under a written data processing agreement and only processes your data on our instructions.

    6. Who we share it with

    We share your personal data only where it is necessary to deliver the service:

    • Drivers & recovery partners we dispatch to reach your location.
    • Garages and repairers when we drop your vehicle for repair and they ask us to confirm arrival or damage details.
    • Your motor insurer or a third-party breakdown company when they have arranged or are paying for the recovery.
    • Our IT, website and payment providers, acting as processors, for hosting, analytics, payments and the contact form.
    • An Garda Síochána, the local authority or motorway operator (TII) where a vehicle is blocking a lane, involved in a collision, or where we are legally required to disclose it.

    We never sell your personal data and we do not transfer it outside the EU/EEA unless the provider we use does so under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses).

    7. How long we keep it

    • Job and dispatch records, invoices and VAT records are kept for the period required by Irish tax law (normally 6 years).
    • Insurance and accident recovery records are kept for up to 7 years so we can answer any later claim.
    • Marketing contact details are kept until you opt out or we stop using them.
    • Website form submissions and call logs are kept for as long as is reasonable to handle any query, then deleted.

    8. Security

    We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including access controls, encrypted password protection on our devices, and limiting access to staff and partners who need it to do their job. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you and the Data Protection Commission without undue delay if a personal data breach is likely to risk your rights or freedoms.

    9. Cookies & analytics

    This website uses only essential and analytics cookies needed to run the site and understand how it is used (for example, which service pages are most visited). We use Google Analytics / Google tags to collect aggregated, pseudonymous traffic data. You can control cookies through your browser settings. We do not use cookies for profiling or cross-site advertising.

    10. Your rights

    Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:

    • access the personal data we hold about you;
    • have inaccurate data corrected;
    • ask us to delete your data (the right to erasure);
    • restrict or object to our processing;
    • receive a copy of your data in a portable format;
    • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it (for example for marketing) — withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out; and
    • lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission, Ireland’s data protection authority.

    To exercise any of these rights, email office@no1recovery.ie or call our office.

    11. Contact & complaints
